Artist's Profile - Haubi haubner

The hand-drawn images by artist HAUBI HAUBNER, based in Freiburg (Baden-Württemberg, Germany), show his influences from music, hippie culture, comics, pop art, and street art. Haubi Haubner also designs print patterns and creates screen prints.

His works, characterized by their precise technique, include motifs that range in style from detailed and interwoven to clear and graphic. Some of his earlier hand-drawn graphics are available, printed on t-shirts and bags, at the web-shop RIVRAV-streetcouture, as part of the Artistline that was created for him.

For his SERIE NUMBERS, the artist developed a distinctive style using an archaic-urban symbolic language that addresses socio-political issues.

Commissioned by the writer and activist Jürgen Grässlin, he designed and drew the logo for the anti-arms-trade website GLOBAL NET - STOP THE ARMS TRADE. Haubi Haubner was then recruited as an illustrator, designing and drawing graphics for different theme pages on the website. For the GN-STAT illustrations, he developed stylistically-cohesive narrative imagery using his own pictograms, such as the one for armed conflict.

Two graphics from his SERIE NUMBERS "VICTIMS OF WAR 100000S" and "PERPRETATOR OF WAR 5&1" are also included here.

Short Report on the Film Festival

“Mercato di Morte – Deadly Trade“ in Merano, Italy

February 2020

By Wolfgang Landgraeber

For the first time in Europe, a film festival on the international arms trade entitled "Mercato di Morte - Deadly Trade" was held in Merano, Italy, in February 2020. The festival was conducted by the Global Net – Stop the Arms Trade (GN-STAT) in partnership with the Municipality and Academy of Merano, the University Platform for Human Dignity and Human Rights (EUPHUR) and other partners. For four days feature films and documentaries from Italy, Great Britain and Germany were shown and discussed. The opening film "Master of Death" by Daniel Harrich was a feature film dedicated to the topic of illegal gun exports to Mexico by the German gun manufacturer Heckler & Koch. Equally worth seeing were the documentaries "Shadow World" by Andrew Feinstein and Johan Grimonprez about the flourishing arms trade with Arab states and the associated corruption, "We were Rebels" by Katharina von Schröder about a former child soldier in Southern Sudan, "Ilari Alpi - L' ultimo Viaggio" by Claudia Cenepari and Gabriele Gravagna on the murder of two Italian journalists who were researching the arms trade, and "Der Tod, die Waffen, das Schweigen" by Wolfgang Landgraeber on Heckler & Koch's business with countries where war has been and is being waged. An average of 50 viewers* per event attended the screenings and discussions, including many young people and school classes. Verena Pohl and Robert Simon, who moderated most of the events, were in charge of organizing the festival. The film selection was provided by Wolfgang Landgraeber. For the GN-STAT, Jürgen Grässlin sent a greeting with a big thank you to Meran. After this success the founders are planning further festivals on the topic of the "arms trade" in other European cities.
